Description This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan and use resources effectively. The unit includes assessing current use of resources; and planning, implementing and monitoring strategies to maximise the efficiency of resource usage.
Employability Skills This unit contains employability skills.
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit applies to those with responsibility for the leadership of others in the sport, fitness and recreation industry. Personnel would be responsible for managing the implementation of a broad range of facility resources and have a high degree of autonomy. This may include those working as facility or operations managers in locations such as fitness centres, outdoor sporting grounds or complexes, aquatic centres or community recreation centres.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

  • Prepare and document an inventory of resource capacity.
  • Undertake research on alternative and optimal use of resources according to organisation strategic plan.
  • Determine feasibility of opportunities and options for efficient use of resources against local and organisational constraints and capacities.
  • Undertake suitable cost-benefit analysis of each option.
  • Prioritise options in consultation with appropriate personnel according to organisational strategic plan.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure:

planning, implementation and review of efficient resource use for a facility or environment that reflects the individual’s current or intended work environment.

Assessment must also ensure access to:

a work environment within a facility with a range of resources suitable for assessment of usage, potential usage and efficiency of usage

an actual or simulated budget for implementation of the resource plan

staff to implement the plan for use of resources

data on use of resources

information about local and organisational constraints and resource capacities.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

observation of implementing and monitoring a plan to promote efficient use of resources

oral and or written questioning to assess knowledge of techniques for assessing resource usage

portfolio of records documenting development of a plan to promote efficient use of resources

third-party reports from a supervisor detailing work performance.
